Recovering From Drug Abuse is a Daily Fight | Health and Fitness

There is no cure for drug abuse. Once you are addicted, you are always addicted. But just because you are addicted does not mean you have to use or let your addiction rule your life. You are no different from someone suffering from a chronic disease such as multiple sclerosis. There is no cure, but there are things you can do to have more good days than bad.

Get Help

Fighting drug addiction is like fighting a war. It makes no sense for just one soldier to confront the enemy. It takes an army. Your army consists of you, your friends, your family and your medical professionals like doctors, therapists, social workers and drug rehab specialists. You can also network with other recovering addicts and check out a forever recovery reviews to see that you are not alone in your war.

Learn Your Triggers

Keep a journal to not only help you record your feelings and safely release stress, but also learn what your triggers are. What are triggers? They are the incidents or circumstances that make you feel as if you have no choice but to use drugs. For example, did you prefer to go to a certain place in order to use? Then you know you can?t go there again, because whenever you go near that place, you?ll start craving.

Only Keep Sober Friends

This is one of the hardest steps for many addicts. There is no way that you will be able to stay straight when your best friend is using right in front of you. You have to drop that friend for the sake of your physical and mental health. Only keep company with sober people. In this case, ?sober? means that they do not use the drug that you are addicted to.

Make Small Goals

It?s easier to remain sober for one hour than for one year. So if you set goals that are too large, you set yourself up for defeat. This leads to stress, guilt and relapses. Ask your therapists and doctors how to set small goals that you can easily reach. This will help you to concentrate on the present moment instead of worrying about the long-term future.
